Is Flexible Packaging Sustainable? #GlenroyGlimpse: Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) Pouches

Welcome to the next edition of #GlenroyGlimpse, a simple and informative segment to showcase our products and services. Today I will be showing our PCR pouch, a product from our sustainable packaging portfolio.

We all know sustainability is a major driver in many industries, especially as it relates to flexible packaging. PCR pouches offer a great option for brands to take a step towards meeting their overall sustainability goals.

What is PCR?

PCR stands for post-consumer recycled resin. That means the resin used to make the pouch structure is made from recycled materials like milk, juice and water bottles. The recycled bottles are gathered and sent through a proprietary process to produce the plastic resin pellets that make flexible packaging. According to data from the Environmental Protection Agency, recycled plastics have a greater positive environmental impact than their virgin counterparts. Many studies suggest recycled plastics contain over 25% less greenhouse gas emissions than virgin resins. Including more PCR resins in flexible packaging will only help drive the Circular Economy.

Pouch features

Our PCR pouches are fully customizable and come in a barrier and non-barrier option. Reverse printed full-color graphics, with a foil layer or window are also available. The size I’m showing right now is 8” by 10”, with a 3-inch k-seal gusset. You can see on the bottom this version has a foil layer. It features a fresh lock press to close zipper. Powder proof and hook to hook closures with an audible, tactile feel are also available.

Made with up to 53% PCR resin, Glenroy’s PCR pouches are FDA approved for direct food contact and provide a sustainable packaging option with environmental benefits. Ideal for the on-the-go consumer, the pouch design is lightweight and provides convenient resealing, which keeps the freshness of the product while also protecting against spills and contamination. This PCR pouch is a great option for a variety of industries like pet food and treats, baking, snacks, frozen foods, personal care, and home care products. It is a great pouch for many different applications.
