Who is Walex?
Walex Products Company is an environmental odor control company based in coastal North Carolina. Since its founding in 1987, Walex has been a global leader in the commercial and consumer odor control markets including portable sanitation, commercial transportation, RV and marine, janitorial, and liquid and solid waste treatment. The Walex motto is “Performance Products for Performance Needs,” and its mission is to provide not only superior products, but exceptional customer service. Like Glenroy, Walex is a family-owned company who continues to maintain that family culture and personal touch in the products they produce and the packaging they use.
Does Packaging Matter?
Glenroy and Walex joined forces to create packaging solutions that benefit both the environment as well as those utilizing their products. Both companies are dedicated to providing exceptional quality with a conscious eye towards sustainability. As part of the TruRenu® sustainable flexible packaging portfolio, Walex chose the innovative and eco-friendly store drop-off recyclable zipper pouch, which qualifies for the How2Recycle® store drop-off label program. You may be asking, “What does store drop-off mean?” If you purchase the Bio-Active Septic Tank Treatment pods from Walex in the store drop-off recyclable pouch, you can simply return the clean, empty pouch to any retail store that has a plastic bag recycling bin. Benefits of Sustainable Flexible Packaging
As category leaders, Walex considers moving into a sustainable packaging format the logical and ethical option to ensure they are good stewards of the environment, the industries they serve, and future generations of consumers. Compared to a rigid HDPE canister, production of a store drop-off recyclable zipper pouch uses up to 77% less plastic, consumes approximately 65% less water, produces approximately 79% less CO2 emissions, uses approximately 78% less fossil fuel during transportation, and contributes approximately 74% less landfill waste (even when factoring in plastic recycling rates). The data speaks for itself.

The Results
Walex is proud to offer its industry-first recyclable stand-up pouch for the residential septic tank treatment market. They are currently working to convert more of their products into store drop-off recyclable zipper pouches, with the next product offerings being their Commando Black Holding Tank Treatment, Porta-Pak Fresh, Porta-Pak Lavender, Bio-Pak Alpine Fresh, Bio-Pak Tropical Breeze, and Elemonate. They have also added to their retail reach with an expansion into Canadian Tire stores.
To produce optimal results, Walex evaluates product and packaging performance with comprehensive accelerated oven testing. They monitor weight variations, packaging appearance, and fragrance strength to better understand how the contents interact with the pouch material at high temperatures as well as when exposed for prolonged periods in less extreme conditions. This rigorous testing enables Walex to confidently supply products that meet their customers’ needs long-term. After thorough qualification testing, Glenroy’s store drop-off recyclable zipper pouches earned top marks, proving that sustainable packaging practices not only protect the environment and the product inside, but are within reach for any brand.
